F.A.Q.

OH MY GOSH, YOU'RE GETTING MARRIED TOO! SO DID YOU BOOK A VIDEOGRAPHER FOR YOUR OWN WEDDING?

We did indeed, in fact we booked that right around the time we booked the venue and photographer. We had heard so many stories from brides, that "the day had gone by so fast" or "it was all a blur", this really helps relive your big day. I don't think I would be in this job if I didn't think it's always necessary in any wedding budget.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE TO CAPTURE AND EDIT THE WEDDING FILM?

We use 3 Panasonic GH5's, and a GoPro Hero 7 for tight spots in many venues. Audio is captured on Instamics and Zoom H1's for the best mix, one fits into the groom's jacket pocket with tie clip mic for the ceremony, while the others capture the room sound for the ceremony and speeches. Footage is uploaded and edited in Final Cut Pro X on a well-fitted iMac.

HOW DO YOU WORK ON THE BIG DAY? IS IT JUST YOURSELF FILMING THE PROCEEDINGS?

I prefer to be discreet on a wedding day and capture events as they happen, rather than set up crazy shots or take time on complicated equipment. Each package includes myself, or a second shooter at an additional cost, to capture natural moments between yourselves and the guests, whether it's nervously awaiting the ceremony to begin or enjoying a few laughs with the family. Three angles will be used to capture the big moments of the day, namely the ceremony, speeches and dances as I have felt it gives more of a grandness to the proceedings rather than just filming with one angle.

CAN WE CHOOSE THE MUSIC FOR THE WEDDING FILM?

Yes, we absolutely encourage it as this will add to a more personalised wedding film. Couples usually like to include their first dance song to open the film, but you can choose 5-7 songs that can be included in the highlights and full film. Cinematic Approach to your film includes more instrumental music, which I will choose as I am working with audio from the ceremony and speeches as well.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DELIVER THE FINISHED FILM?

It can take twelve to sixteen weeks to finish the main film, and sometimes longer depending on the schedule. We want to give you the best wedding film possible so we want to take as much care in the editing as you did planning the big day.

THAT'S A LONG TURNAROUND TIME COMPARED TO SOME QUOTES WE RECEIVED. HOW DO YOU JUSTIFY THE WAIT?

The style we have adopted, for this year in particular, means we can't get things done quickly. Though if we are quiet, we could get the film out sooner. To make the wait more bearable we do periodically supply a 'Sneak Peek' video (approx. 2 minutes) of footage from the day, and then the highlights film a few weeks later. Other companies may have filmed the wedding differently, as we make use of three angles for the big moments, as well as a lot of candid footage from the reception, we want your film to stand out.

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Yes, we are covered by public liability and indemnity insurance.

DO YOU TRAVEL AND WHAT WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

Yes we cover a lot of Scotland and are considering destination weddings. 50 mile radius from our home is included in the price, anything outwith that will be charged at 50p per mile. Depending on time required for beginning or end of day may incur a charge of a hotel stay at the local Travelodge.

DO YOU REQUIRE A MEAL?

We don't include this in our contract, other than to say that if a meal is being provided to the photographer(s) then please include myself in the plan as well. We can always provide for ourselves unless there isn't anything available in the vicinity of the wedding venue.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD WE BOOK A VIDEOGRAPHER?

It depends on when you are getting married, as 18 months is around the norm for any booking. Though some midweek weddings can be booked closer to the date. As we are only taking 30 bookings each year, that means any date will apply and we could be unavailable after the diary is full. We just don't want to take on too much and have our post production work suffer.

WHAT SHOULD WE BE CONSIDERING WHEN LOOKING AT DIFFERENT COMPANIES?

Ask what equipment is used and how they go about filming the big day, also do you get on well and will they understand what you expect of them. I try to make sure everything is covered on the day, in case there are any surprises. Also view as many samples of their work as you can, and ask to see a full film if you are seriously considering their work. Full films will give you a better idea of what footage they can get, as a highlights film will just give you the cut down 'best' bits.

CAN WE MEET WITH YOU PRIOR TO THE EVENT, OR EVEN PRIOR TO BOOKING?

Yes we absolutely would love to meet with you to discuss the big day in person, even prior to booking with us. It's an important part of the day, so any questions you have we are happy to answer, so let's grab a coffee.

LASTLY, WHAT IS YOUR BOOKING PROCEDURE AND PAYMENT TERMS?

We ask for £200 deposit to secure your date, with the remaining balance of the package due six weeks before the wedding. Dates cannot be held for extended periods of time without a deposit, so it is a first come, first served policy that I hope you understand. An invoice will be supplied for your records, and a contract to be signed, confirming the initial details supplied to us - package choice, extras, bride & groom names, venue location(s), and monies.

JUST ONE MORE THING. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD CONSIDER?

Try not to be hesitant about a wedding film. This is a great accompaniment for the photos, and you get to watch back the ceremony and speeches with audio. Some people don't wish for it to be included, but a lot of couples do regret it after the wedding day has passed. You want this big day to be remembered, and this is a great way to do just that.
